If you’ve ever been on Interstate 80 in eastern Utah near the Interstate 84 interchange, there’s an exit to Echo Reservoir and to the town of Echo. The road splits off to the town one direction and the reservoir the other direction.

I’ve been to the town of Echo in the past and it’s got some old abandoned buildings, including an adorable church and a cool old gas station. Less than 100 people live in the town today.

Fun fact about Echo is it served as a junction between the First Transcontinental Railroad and a spur line for the silver mines near Park City.

Since I never visit Echo Reservoir, I just admire it from the view point off the freeway, there’s usually no reason to head the other direction off the freeway.

Back in February, to get out of the house, I decided to finally venture up the mountains to the reservoir. You get a beautiful view of Echo Reservoir from I-80 and during wintertime when it’s frozen over, people will go and ice fishing. Something I didn’t know until this year.
